There is no specific gene therapy legislation in Iceland. So far no clinical gene therapy trials have been conducted in Iceland. The competent authorities to approve gene therapy trials are The National Bioethics Committee and the Icelandic Medicines Agency. If the researcher needs access to health records or use biological samples from biobanks the permission of the Data Protection Authority is needed.
A complete legislation on scientific research in the health sector is in progress.
