News: Modified gene therapy shows promise in SCID-X1
A majority of boys with X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency experienced T-cell recovery and infection clearance after undergoing gene therapy with a self-inactivating gamma-retrovirus vector, according to study results. Salima Hacein-Bey-Abina, PharmD, PhD, of the department of biotherapy at Hôpital Necker – Enfants Malades in Paris, and colleagues sought to modify a Moloney murine leukemia virus-based gamma-retrovirus vector that expressed interleukin-2 receptor gamma-chain complementary DNA

Conference: XXII Congress of the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ESGCT)
The XXIInd annual congress of the ESGCT will be held in collaboration with the Netherlands Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (NVGCT) from 23 - 26 October 2014. There is an exciting programme already lined up, and travel, social and accommodation information is also available on the ESGCT website.

Due to popular demand there will once again be running a Clinical Trials Training Workshop in collaboration with the ASGCT on the 23rd of October. In parallel the organisation is offering a new interactive Education Day with sessions for young researchers, patients and members of the public.

The organisation is expecting to match their record numbers from 2013 with more than 1000 delegates making it the largest academic gene therapy congress in Europe with representatives from over 35 countries.
